FOCUS Izalco Max Bicycles Recall

Focus Bicycles USA is voluntarily recalling all 2014-2015 Focus Izalco Max bicycles with Acros-brand upper headsets. The headsets are black with the word “Acros” printed in white on the upper headset.

Hazard: The headset could cause the carbon-fiber fork steer tube to crack, posing a fall hazard.

Remedy: Repair.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and contact Focus Bicycles to schedule a repair.

Focus Bicycles has received 11 reports of incidents outside the United States, including one reported injury in France. No incidents have been reported in the United States or Canada.

These bicycles were sold at independent bicycle retailers nationwide, and online at www.bikebling.com and www.carbonconnection.com from January 2014 through August 2015.

In the US, this recall program is being managed under the auspices of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). (You can read the joint CPSC/Focus Bicycles voluntary recall notice here). How to identify the Acros-brand upper headset: The headset will have the ACROS brand etched into the side of the headset.

Who's affected: Customers who have 2014 or 2015 Focus Izalco Max bicycles fitted with Acros-brand upper headsets should stop riding them at once and contact your local Focus Bicycles retailer to perform a safety check, and if your bike is affected, swap out the headset with another version (along with other internal parts) that eliminates the issue.
